    • Anointing of the Sick

    • What is Anointing of the Sick?
Anointing of the sick brings strength and healing from sin, and sometimes from physical illness, to the sick, the elderly, and the dying. The celebration of this Sacrament helps the individual to face their illness with faith and trust and imparts many graces, including the gift of the Holy Spirit to strengthen one against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation, conveying peace and fortitude (CCC 1520). These graces flow from the atoning death of Jesus Christ:" this was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, 'He took our infirmities and bore our diseases'" (Matt. 8:17). Anointing of the Sick may be received by any Catholic who is facing a serious illness or is of advanced years.

      Scheduling Anointing of the Sick
Anointing of the Sick can be requested by calling the Parish Office at 740-587-3254. Individuals who are planning to enter the hospital are particularly encouraged to receive the sacrament before admission.

Volunteers also visit those who are in the hospital, a nursing home, or confined to their own home. Please contact the Parish Office at 740-587-3254 if you or a loved one desires a pastoral visit.
    • "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the priests of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins,
      he will be forgiven."
      James 5:14-15
