Granville, St. Edward the Confessor Parish welcomes you to our community! We have been entrusted with the mission to share our Catholic Faith with the world, beginning in our own neighborhood.
Our town, Granville, and our parish, St. Edward the Confessor, have a wonderful history that is worth noting. Early settlers came to Ohio, motivated to set up a community willing to work together to tame the wilderness and establish a foothold that brought a cooperative culture into being. Granville, Ohio, was founded in 1805, by former residents of Granville, Massachusetts. Right from the beginning, there has been a desire to educate the young and to send them out with skills required to engage in meeting the needs of society and caring for others.
St. Edward the Confessor Parish was established in 1946. In the new millennium, the community has grown, building a beautiful church that rises to the heavens as a witness of our call to stay close to our Faith and to keep Christ at the center of our lives. Pastors and people through the years have built up our campus in a way to that shows our values: worship of the Living God in Jesus Christ, welcome to all who come to share fellowship with us, and a desire for youth and adults to learn the Faith well so they can serve as witnesses to God’s Presence among us.
Our Patron, St. Edward was the last Anglo-Saxon King of England, ruling from 1042-1066. His life was dedicated to his people and to his Faith. Canonized by Pope Alexander III in 1161, his Feast is celebrated October 13, by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church.
At this time, we are experiencing a transition in the Diocese of Columbus, with many changes in pastors and in the configuration of parish life. Our neighborhood is expecting new growth in the near future with the arrival of Intel. My own pastorate, beginning July 11, 2023, is a return to Licking County, since my first pastorate was at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament where I served 1996-2008. I am happy to be back in the area and look forward to getting to know all of you.
Please review the many facets of parish life listed on our website, and feel free to contact the Parish Office with any questions or concerns. You may call 740-587-3254 or send an email to church@saintedwards.org.
Blessings to you!
